Abstract

Life cycle cost consists of Initial cost, Service cost, Operating and Maintenance(O&M) cost, Disposal cost. Up to 80% of life-cycle cost may be locked in by preconstruction decisions. In contrast, O&M treatment cost escalates whole-life cost and its cost vary according to treatment method. Therefore, it is important to seek cost-effective strategy for managing assets over their entire life by capitalizing on timely and appropriate treatments to extend asset life at the lowest reasonable cost. For optimal retaining wall management, life cycle planning including condition assessment, risk-hazard analysis, effective treatment decision, and treatment strategy plan is essential.
